Beer is the most popular drink worldwide, and can be found everywhere. It is readily available and can be over-powering for those that do not know how to handle the side effects. Here are a few tips when consuming alcoholic beverages:

- Know your limit and drink minimal quantities. Alcoholism effects many people, so know how much you can responsibly consume and when to stop. Your best bet for avoiding addiction is to drink minimal quantities.

- Drink at home. Once of the best ways to drink beer responsibly is to simply drink at home. This can limit any number of problems that can occur when consuming alcohol publicly – including DUI and confrontational encounters.

- Do not drive while intoxicated. If you’ve consumed beer, it is in your best interest not to drive. Not only is it illegal in most states, but it is also very dangerous. You could possibly kill yourself or others. Always have an alternate way to get home if you go out drinking. If you are drinking away from home, give your keys to a friend, call a taxi, or get somebody to give you a ride.

- If drinking in a public place, it is best not to leave your drink unattended. Doing so may leave you susceptible to someone placing a substance in your drink.

In the US, the legal age to purchase and consume alcohol is 21 years of age. You must present a photo ID when purchasing alcohol. Any ID that has your photo and birth date is usually acceptable.

As a final note, if you or somebody you know is having a problem controlling their drinking, it is best to find medical care.  Alcoholism can be a devastating disease to the afflicted and those close to that person.  Proper treatment is necessary to help control this disease.
